A flash-flood watch is now in effect for parts of St. James, St. Thomas, St. Peter, St. Andrew, St. Joseph and St. Lucy and St. John.

Possible Impacts
Key Message: Possible moderate to significant:- Soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields which may lead to commuting delays and possible isolated diversions . Increases in water levels of existing water bodies (e.g ponds etc.). Marginally invasive excess water on roads, fields, storm drains/water canals and on property. Residents and visitors should also be aware that this alert level could elevate to red.

The public is encouraged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
Discussion
Light winds along with daytime heating could trigger between 1 and 3 inches of rainfall and thunderstorm activity this afternoon. As a result, the BMS has issued a flash-flood watch for some northern, northeastern and central districts. These conditions are expected to improve during the late evening and into tonight.
General Information
A flash-flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible. This flash-flood watch was issued at 11:50 am today Saturday 5th October 2024 and will be terminated at 6 pm 5th October 2024 or sooner if conditions warrant.
