Description
The flash flood warning area has been extended to include central sections of the island. The warning still remains in effect for western and southwestern sections of the island.

Excessive rainfall today, Sunday 8th September, has already generated in excess of 2 inches ( 50mm ) of rainfall across some western and southwestern sections of the island. However, heavy showers have started to spread across central sections of the island.
Possible Impacts
Runoff from higher elevations. Soil erosion/land slippage on exposed or scarred land surfaces. Water settlements on roads and fields. Adjustments to water levels of existing water bodies (ponds etc.). Large objects or debris from higher elevations becoming embedded within fast moving water flows. Flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads. Delays on traffic routes with some roads being impassable or cutoff.

The public should follow recommendations from the department of emergency management as well as monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further updates.
Discussion
Intense shower activity will continue throughout the afternoon across western and southwestern districts of the island. This activity is a result of the light winds and strong daytime heating.

This Flash Flood Warning was issued at 2:15 pm Sunday 8th September 2024 and will be terminated at 6:00 pm Sunday 8th September 2024 or sooner if conditions warrant.
