Effective
11:25:38 2023-09-06
Expires
16:49:00 2023-09-06
Description
Tropical Depression thirteen was upgraded to Tropical Storm Lee yesterday afternoon and is now close to hurricane strength.
There are NO watches or warnings associated with this system for Barbados.
The Barbados Meteorological Services continue to monitor this system which is currently located near 14.1N 45.5W and moving west-northwestward at 14 mph. The minimum central pressure of Lee is 994 mb with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph.
The system became better organized over the last 24 hours, and it is expected to rapidly intensify into a major hurricane later this week. Nevertheless, guidance has been consistent in tracking the system well north of Barbados on Friday into Saturday. Therefore Barbados will not be directly impacted by Lee.
As Tropical Storm Lee moves northwestward, wind speeds here in Barbados are forecast to decrease and result in very hot conditions Thursday night into Friday across the island.
