Alert summary
THE FLOOD WARNING FOR BARBADOS HAS BEEN DOWNGRADED TO A FLOOD WATCH
Effective
06:25:12 2022-04-27
Expires
18:00:00 2022-04-27
Description
This alert message is valid from 6:00 am Wednesday 27th April 2022 and will be updated at 12:00 pm Wednesday 27th April 2022 or sooner if conditions warrant.
A flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall could result in flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur, but it is possible.
Hazard Info:-
**** Hazard Info ****
During the last 36 hours, rainfall accumulations of 1 to 4 inches were received across the island as a trough system continued generating periods of rain and occasional moderate to heavy showers.
Overnight however, the overall environmental conditions have become less favourable for excessive amounts of rainfall resulting in the flood warning for Barbados being downgraded to a flood watch.
Regardless, the unstable conditions being experienced have the potential to generate further accumulations of 1 to 3 inches across the island during the next 24 hours and residents and visitors are urged to remain alert.
Due to the already saturated nature of the soils, this watch could be re-upgraded to a warning at short notice with the onset of heavy shower activity.
Key Message: Residents and visitors should be prepared for:
Strong runoff from higher elevations.
Soil erosion on bared or scarred land surfaces.
Debris such as small rocks, mud and tree foliage could end up on roads and property.
Traffic delays.
Flooding at the foot of hillsides and coastal roads.
Large water settlements on roads and fields.
Significant delays on traffic routes with some roads possibly becoming impassable.
