WEATHER INFORMATION STATEMENT #3 ON TROPICAL WAVE EAST OF BARBADOS
Effective
16:58:53 2022-09-20
Expires
06:00:00 2022-09-21
Description
The Barbados Meteorological Services continues to closely monitor the progress of a Tropical wave located near 56W south of 12N at 5 PM today, Tuesday 20th September 2022.
Current Situation: Over the past 12 hours, satellite imagery continued to show a large area of disorganized convection associated with the system tracking westward at around 15 to 20 mph (about 25 to 30 km/h).
Intensity and track Forecast: Latest model guidance is in relatively good agreement that most of the activity associated with the system will pass to the south of Barbados from as early as Wednesday morning. Rapid intensification of the system is unlikely as it approaches Barbados and the Southern Windward Islands.
Due to the updated track, rainfall accumulations have been trending downwards on all guidance, especially on the Barbados Meteorological Services high-resolution model. Our official rainfall accumulation forecast has been revised downwards to 1 to 2 inches on Wednesday and may be revised downward further if the current southward trajectory continues throughout the night. Winds are likely to be between 20 to 30 mph (about 35 to 50 km/h) with higher gusts possible during shower activity.
A small-craft advisory remains in effect for above-normal sea swells for Wednesday 21st September 2022.
Recommendations to the public:
-The BMS urges the public to stay alert for updates issued on this system over the next 12 to 24 hours.
-Large open water swells can be hazardous to some small vessels.
-Sea bathers are advised to exercise extreme caution, particularly on the eastern and southern beaches.
The next update will be at 6 am tomorrow, September 21st, 2022.
