Description
***********************THIS STATEMENT IS NOT A WATCH OR WARNING***********************
The Barbados Meteorological Service is closely monitoring a tropical wave and an associated area of low pressure located near 15N 51W. This is about 920 km (570 miles) east northeast of Barbados at 11 AM.
Current Situation: Environmental conditions around the system have improved since the past 24 hours and this has resulted in some better organization of the system. However, development is still expected to be slow over the next 24 to 48 hours as the system moves west-northwestward at about 15 mph.
Track and Intensity Forecast: Current model guidance has been persistent in indicating that the system will pass well north of Barbados sometime early next week. Therefore, this system does not pose any direct threat to the island. However, expect winds across Barbados to fall off from Saturday afternoon 18th September, 2021 into Monday 20th September 2021, resulting in very warm conditions outside followed by the possibility of afternoon downpours in some western districts.
Recommendations to the public: Continue to monitor for alerts issued by the BMS. Download the BMS Andriod App (BMS Insight) from the Google Play Store for rapid-fire alerts.
The will be the final statement on this feature.
